History

History

The cornerstone was laid in 1974 with the founding of the company in Hamburg and Bremen. At that time we started as Liner Agency under the name of Contimar Linienagentur for a carrier handling break bulk cargo to the Eastern Mediterranean. During the 2nd oil crises in the early eighties and the upcoming globalization, the streams of goods and the global economy changed drastically. As a result we realigned ourselves and shifted our business focus from pure liner agency services to becoming an independent ship broker for worldwide break bulk cargo. We renamed our company to COLI Schiffahrt & Transport, keeping the initials "CO" and "LI" of our former company name.

Determined to expand our services strategically to all important scenes for European trade, we soon opened offices in the major European key-ports for break bulk cargo.

1977 our office in Antwerp was opened - a traditional location for liner services and an important gateway to European Hinterland which has just recently gained in repute as major port for transshipments in international cross trades for break bulk cargo.

1980 our small but distinguished office in Rotterdam opened - which is one of the main ports of the Hamburg-Antwerp-Range, offering the deepest draft port in the world. The excellent connection to the Hinterland makes it a commendable location and a noteworthy alternative to Antwerp for project and heavy lift cargoes.

1987 we founded our daughter company CPC Consolidated Pool Carriers GmbH in Hamburg, with the aim to provide exclusive carrier services from Asia to Europe and vice versa to our clients as individual alternative to the services available on the market.

1997 we opened our first affiliated office in the burgeoning Far Eastern market under the name of CPC Consolidated Pool Carriers (Asia) Co. Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan. At that time CPC was a joint-venture-partner of the Japanese flag carrier Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), Tokyo as Intra-Asia-Service. Japan was and still is one of the most powerful nations in the worldwide industrial trade.

2007 we expanded further and entered the American market by founding CPC Consolidated Project Carriers LLC in Houston, as sales office to our affiliated company CPC Consolidated Pool Carriers, Hamburg. Houston is known as the gateway and important transshipment port for the American trade.

2007 we also opened an affiliated sales office in Singapore named CPC Consolidated Project Carriers Ltd., as strategic gateway and transshipment point for cargoes to and from the Far East.

2009 we founded CBC Consolidated Bulk Carriers GmbH in Bremen, acting as carrier specializing in the transportation of cargoes for the local steel and wind power industry on an inner-European service and thereby filling a market gap in this special segment.

Over the time we have formed strategic alliances and agency agreements to provide global presence.
